HubSpot Core vs Front Office seats: who needs which
On HubSpot's new pricing, the Core seat vs Front Office seat choice comes down to how someone works: a Core Seat gives core access to the CRM, Breeze Assistant and enriched data, while a Front Office Seat adds the dedicated workspaces and tools that customer-facing teams use every day. Front Office seats cost twice as much as Core seats on Professional, and Starter doesn't offer them at all.
This guide is part of our series on HubSpot's new pricing model for new customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prices come from HubSpot's Flexible Seats-and-Credits Pricing supplement, as published on 2 October 2026.
Two seats, not six hubs
Under the new seats-and-credits model, you no longer buy seats hub by hub. There are just two seat types, and their price depends on the edition your whole account is on.
| Seat | Starter | Professional | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core Seat | €20 | €60 | €90 |
| Front Office Seat | Not available | €120 | €150 |
All prices are per seat per month, "starts at".
Because one edition applies to the whole account, you can't put your sales team on Professional and everyone else on Starter. Every seat in the account is priced at the account's edition. That makes the seat mix, rather than the edition mix, the main lever you control.
HubSpot Core seat vs Front Office seat: what each includes
Core Seat
Core access, including Breeze Assistant, enriched data and Smart CRM. This is the seat for anyone who needs to work in HubSpot but isn't using the dedicated tools for customer-facing teams.
Front Office Seat
Dedicated workspaces and tools for customer-facing teams. It includes everything in Core access. It replaces the old Sales, Service and Revenue Seats, so if you're used to buying those, this is the equivalent.
What neither seat covers
Neither seat type pays for activity. Emails HubSpot sends, credit-consuming workflow actions and AI agents all use credits, whichever seat the person triggering them holds. Records also sit outside seats: they count against your edition's record capacity. A seat is the right to log in and use the tools, not a bundle of usage.
Starter has no Front Office seats
This is the first thing to check. On Starter, only Core Seats are available, and Starter is capped at 10 paid seats.
So if your sales or service team needs the customer-facing workspaces, you need Professional or Enterprise. Front Office seats are one of the features listed as Professional and Enterprise only, alongside workflows, sequences and custom reporting.
Every account needs at least one seat, whichever edition you choose.
The 10-seat cap
The cap matters as soon as a team grows. Take a business with 12 people who all need Core access and nothing more. Starter is ruled out by the cap alone, so the cheapest option is Professional: 12 × €60 = €720 a month in seats (our calculation). The team pays for Professional even if it needs none of Professional's extra features.
Who needs which: role by role
This table is our guide to common roles. HubSpot defines the seats by what they include, not by job title, so check the tools each person actually uses.
| Role | Likely seat | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sales rep working deals daily | Front Office | Uses customer-facing workspaces and tools |
| Customer service agent | Front Office | Works tickets and customer conversations |
| Account manager | Front Office | Customer-facing, needs the same tools as sales |
| Sales or service team lead | Front Office | Manages customer-facing work |
| Marketer building emails and campaigns | Core | Core access covers CRM and Breeze Assistant |
| Operations or CRM admin | Core | Configures the system rather than working customers |
| Finance or leadership viewing reports | Core | Needs access, not customer-facing tools |
| Occasional contributor | Core | Light use of the CRM |
If someone only needs to look things up or update records, Core is usually enough. If they spend their day with customers inside HubSpot, Front Office is the seat built for them.
Grey areas
Some roles sit in between. A sales development rep who mainly researches accounts may manage on Core, while one who works a queue of conversations all day probably needs Front Office. A marketing manager who occasionally joins a deal doesn't need a Front Office seat for that. When in doubt, start with the person's daily tasks rather than their title, and review after the first month.
Worked seat costs (our calculation)
Here's what seats alone cost on Professional:
| Team | Seats | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Core users | 5 × €60 | €300 |
| 5 Front Office users | 5 × €120 | €600 |
| 2 Front Office + 3 Core | 2 × €120 + 3 × €60 | €420 |
Five Front Office seats cost twice as much as five Core seats. That's why it pays to be deliberate about who gets which.
On Starter, the same five Core users would cost 5 × €20 = €100 a month (our calculation). But Starter can't give any of them Front Office tools.
On Enterprise, a larger service team with 10 Front Office seats and 5 Core seats comes to 10 × €150 + 5 × €90 = €1,950 a month in seats (our calculation). Enterprise is the only edition with a standard sandbox, so teams that need one start here.
Seats aren't the whole bill
Seats are only one part of the new model. You'll also pay for:
- Credits beyond the included allowance, for emails, workflow actions, agents and more. Starter includes 5,000 credits a month, Professional 10,000 and Enterprise 15,000. See HubSpot Credits explained.
- Records beyond your capacity. See record capacity explained.
- Packs and add-ons if you need them.
Because Starter can't buy email packs, a small team that sends a lot of email can end up paying less on Professional even though the seats cost more. We walk through an example in why Professional can be cheaper than Starter.
Mistakes to avoid
- Giving everyone Front Office by default. On Professional that doubles the seat cost for anyone who only needs Core access.
- Forgetting admins. The person who builds workflows and reports needs a seat, usually Core.
- Choosing Starter for a team that will pass 10 people. You'll have to move up anyway, so price Professional from the start.
- Ignoring the edition rule. If one team needs a Professional feature, every seat in the account is priced at Professional.
Tips for choosing seats
- List everyone who logs in. Don't forget admins and people who only view reports.
- Mark who works with customers inside HubSpot daily. Those are your Front Office candidates.
- Check the edition first. If anyone needs Front Office tools, Starter is ruled out.
- Watch the Starter cap. More than 10 paid seats means Professional or above.
- Revisit at renewal. Roles change; seat mixes should too.
