HubSpot Annual vs Monthly Billing: Which Saves More?
The basics
HubSpot Starter plans can be billed monthly with no commitment. Professional and Enterprise plans require an annual commitment regardless of billing frequency. The choice for most businesses comes down to: do you pay that annual commitment monthly, or upfront for the year?
Paying upfront for the year saves 10 to 25% depending on the Hub and tier. That's real money, especially on higher-tier plans.
For a full breakdown of what each Hub and tier costs, see our main pricing guide.
How much you actually save
The exact discount varies, but here are the approximate savings on annual upfront vs monthly billing:
Starter plans: Roughly 10 to 15% saving on annual billing. On a single seat at $20 per month, that's about $25 to $35 saved per year. Modest, but Starter plans don't require annual commitment, so you also have the flexibility to cancel monthly.
Professional plans: Roughly 15 to 20% saving. On Marketing Hub Professional at ~$890 per month, annual upfront pricing drops it to around $800 per month. That's roughly $1,000 saved per year on a single Hub.
Enterprise plans: Similar percentage savings but larger absolute numbers. Marketing Hub Enterprise at $3,600 per month drops to around $3,000 to $3,200 per month on annual upfront. That's potentially $4,000 to $7,000 saved per year.
Across multiple Hubs, the savings compound. A business running Marketing Hub Professional and Sales Hub Professional could save $1,500 to $2,500 per year by paying annually upfront.
When annual upfront makes sense
You're confident you'll stay on HubSpot for at least a year. If you've already been using HubSpot and know it works for your business, paying upfront is essentially a guaranteed return on your cash.
Your cash flow can handle it. You'll be paying 10 to 12 months upfront instead of monthly. For a Professional plan, that could mean a $10,000+ payment on day one. If your business has healthy reserves, this is a smart use of capital. If cash is tight, the monthly option preserves flexibility.
You've already modelled your costs properly. Make sure you know your full annual cost including seats, contacts, and any add-ons before committing. An upfront payment on the wrong plan is money you won't get back.
When monthly billing makes more sense
You're new to HubSpot. If this is your first year, paying monthly gives you time to evaluate whether the platform truly fits. You're still locked into the annual commitment on Professional and Enterprise, but you're not putting up the full year's cost on day one.
Your team size is changing. If you're hiring (or downsizing) and your seat count will shift over the next 12 months, monthly billing gives you more flexibility to adjust.
You're on Starter. Since Starter plans have no annual commitment, monthly billing carries zero risk. You can cancel or upgrade any time. The annual discount at Starter level is small enough that the flexibility of monthly often outweighs the savings.
The detail people miss
Even on monthly billing, Professional and Enterprise plans require an annual commitment. You're not month-to-month. You're paying monthly over a 12-month contract. If you cancel mid-year, you may still owe the remainder.
The only truly month-to-month option is Starter.
This means the real choice on Professional and Enterprise is: pay the full year upfront (and save 15 to 20%) or pay the same annual commitment in 12 monthly instalments (and pay full price for the flexibility of smaller payments).
Factor in contact tiers
If you're on Marketing Hub, your contact tier can auto-upgrade during the year. If you pay annually upfront, you'll still get billed for contact overage as a separate charge. Annual upfront doesn't protect you from mid-year cost increases due to contact growth.
Budget for this. If your list is growing, model the contact cost at 150% of your current count so you're not caught off guard.
